Hair repeats generation and shedding as it goes through the anagen–catagen–telogen phases. Therefore, hair loss occurs when abnormalities arise in the hair growth cycle due to hormones, stress, nutritional deficiency, and other factors.
The hair follicle, the root of the hair, receives nutrients from the dermal papilla and grows the hair. If the follicle fails to properly produce hair, or if many follicles are resting, hair becomes sparse or thin.
In other words, the condition of the hair follicle is very important in hair loss. Recently, hair follicle stem cell treatment, a treatment method that restores follicles to a healthy state using stem cells, has emerged and is drawing attention. We spoke with Yoo Hwa-jung, Chief Director of Modi Hair Plant [photo], about the effects and precautions of hair follicle stem cell treatment.
Q. What is hair follicle stem cell treatment?
A. Hair follicle stem cells are cells that enable hair to grow continuously. If the number of effective hair follicle stem cells decreases or their activity declines, healthy hair cannot be produced normally. It is a method of restoring atrophied follicles by injecting healthy stem cells.
Q. What effects can be expected from the treatment?
A. It helps increase the number of hairs in the area of hair loss and make them thicker. The hair growth effect generally lasts about 1 to 2 years.
Q. Is there anything to check before treatment?
A. You need to confirm what ingredient is injected and where. Even with stem cell treatment for hair loss, there are many cases where it is difficult to penetrate deep into the follicle, or where stem cells from other areas are used and fail to survive in the follicle. For the effect to appear properly, stem cells extracted directly from one's own hair follicles must be administered deep into the follicle area.
