Thinning hair from hair loss — is there a way to make it fuller?

[Director Yoo Hwa-jung's Column] As people age, various changes tend to appear in the body. Among them, the thinning of hair, one of the concerns of the middle-aged, is one such change.

However, if hair falls out noticeably in large amounts, if a lot of hair falls from the crown area when washing your hair or after waking up, or if the hair becomes thinner, you should suspect hair loss. The problem is that many people regard this decrease in hair volume as something that occurs with age and leave it untreated, but caution is needed because missing the treatment window may worsen hair loss symptoms.

Hair loss refers to a state in which hair is absent in areas where it should normally be present. The causes of hair loss are varied; genetic factors, environmental factors, and poor lifestyle habits are generally cited as representative causes. Recently, due to these various environmental factors, the number of hair loss patients is increasing even among younger people.

Along with the increase in the hair-loss population, interest in ways to increase hair volume is growing. Overall health management is important, such as maintaining a clean scalp condition, getting sufficient sleep, reducing stress through rest and moderate exercise, quitting smoking, and consuming nutrition beneficial for hair.

Also, if you feel a change in hair volume and thickness, it is good to prevent the worsening of hair loss through early diagnosis as quickly as possible. In the early stages, it can be sufficiently improved with non-surgical treatments such as medication or scalp care programs.

The problem is that in early hair loss, since it begins with the hair becoming thinner, it may go unnoticed. In fact, many hair loss patients find it difficult to detect it early, leave it for a long time, and often visit a clinic only when their hair volume has noticeably decreased.

If the symptoms are severe like this, it may be good to consider a hair transplant. A hair transplant is a method of harvesting hair from the occipital region and transplanting it to the hair loss area. It can be carried out in a customized way according to the type, such as M-shaped hair loss or crown hair loss, and has the advantage of achieving more natural results.

However, a surgery can be called successful only when the graft survival rate is increased. Since it takes time for the hair follicles to fully take hold, it is advisable to proceed at a clinic equipped with a systematic aftercare system, and the management of hair that has not been transplanted is also important.

Above all, hair transplantation, which has been regarded as something exclusive to middle-aged men, is seeing increasing demand regardless of gender or age due to the recent increase in hair loss patients. Before proceeding with a hair transplant, it is necessary to accurately identify the cause and condition of the hair loss, and it is important to establish an appropriate plan accordingly.
