Hair loss, once known to affect mainly middle-aged and older men, has become a significant concern for women as well as people in their 20s and 30s.
While genetic factors used to be the main cause of hair loss, more people have recently been reporting hair loss symptoms due to various external environmental factors such as pregnancy and childbirth, hair dyeing, and stress.
Reflecting this trend, the related market—from anti-hair-loss shampoos to nutritional supplements and treatment devices—is also growing significantly. In particular, a growing number of people are considering medical procedures such as hair transplants for a fundamental improvement of hair loss symptoms.
A hair transplant is a method of transplanting healthy hair from the back of the head to the area affected by hair loss. Among these, non-incision hair transplantation involves harvesting only the necessary follicles one by one without making an incision in the back of the head, so there is almost no pain, and since no scalpel is used, no scar remains after surgery.
This is performed by harvesting hair follicles with a special punch of 0.9 mm or less in diameter. Many patients worry that the density at the back of the head will decrease during a non-incision hair transplant, but when a small special punch of 0.9 mm or less in diameter is used, adjacent follicles are not injured during the harvesting process, so patients can undergo non-incision hair transplant surgery with confidence, without concerns about accompanying loss or reduced density at the back of the head.
However, with any condition, a more satisfactory result can be expected only when treatment is carried out according to the accurate cause and symptoms. If a hair transplant is pushed through excessively, it may lead to unsatisfactory results, such as the scalp showing through excessively due to low hair density, or an unnatural appearance because the hairline design was not taken into consideration.
Director Yoo Hwa-jung of Modi Hair Plant said, "As demand for hair transplants has increased recently, cases of revision surgery are also increasing, so caution is needed," adding, "Because hair transplant revision surgery is more difficult than the first surgery, it is important to choose a clinic with abundant clinical experience and know-how. Also, if hair loss symptoms that continue after the first surgery are left unaddressed, the amount of hair that needs to be transplanted increases, so it is better to find an appropriate treatment method early and address it."
In particular, non-incision hair transplantation is drawing attention as a method well suited to hair transplant revision surgery, in cases where the incision method can no longer be performed after multiple hair transplants. For hair transplant revision surgery, it is important to consider not just a temporary graft survival rate but a graft survival rate that is permanently maintained. In addition, through sufficient consultation with the medical team, a surgical plan should be established that takes into account the individual's needs as well as the medical team's opinion on the hairline that suits them.
Furthermore, in order to avoid having to undergo yet another revision after a revision surgery, systematic aftercare following surgery is more important than anything else. Accordingly, along with the clinic's aftercare system, patients should faithfully follow the care instructions given by the clinic and undergo regular check-ups, making consistent efforts to strengthen hair density.
