Female M-shaped hairline: what to consider when getting a 'hair transplant'

As the hot weather continues, women with long hair often style it in a high ponytail or twist it into a bun. However, some women find such styling difficult. These are women with an M-shaped hairline caused by hair loss.

In fact, hair loss, once known as something limited to middle-aged men, is now increasingly reported by women as well, due to various causes such as pregnancy and childbirth, hair dyeing, and stress.

Hair loss can be a significant source of stress, particularly for women, who are inevitably sensitive about their appearance. An angular M-shaped hairline can create a masculine impression and, in severe cases, may also be a major factor in looking older than one's age.

For this reason, many people turn to related products such as anti-hair-loss shampoos and nutritional supplements for management. Recently, a growing number of people are also considering medical procedures such as hair transplants for more fundamental improvement.

A hair transplant is performed by transplanting healthy hair from the back of the head to the area affected by hair loss. It may be considered when the forehead is excessively wide or the hairline is uneven, and it can soften the forehead line as well as complement the contours of the face.

However, treatment must be carried out according to the exact cause and symptoms of the hair loss. An excessive hair transplant may instead create an unnatural appearance, and there are not a few cases where this leads to revision surgery.

Yoo Hwa-jung, Chief Director of Modi Hair Plant, explained, "Recently, more women are considering a hair transplant to improve an M-shaped hairline," adding, "Above all, with a hair transplant, a satisfactory corrective outcome can be achieved only when the procedure is performed after sufficient consultation with the medical staff and after designing a hairline that harmonizes with one's head shape and facial features, taking the overall facial proportions into account."
